A question I receive from many IPA investors is why we created a property investment personality quiz. After all, it’s not like most quizzes. It will not reveal how much you know or how ‘good’ you are. And even though IPA’s offerings include real estate education and coaching, the quiz is not meant to present what we can teach you.
Instead, the quiz reveals who you are, what motivates you, and how to be your best and most genuine self in this investing space.

Be Your Best Self Intentionally
It takes awareness to know what qualities, characteristics, and traits spell success. But there is more to it. After all, how you interact in the real estate space may not be how someone else interacts successfully. But we can each discover prosperity and happiness using our own unique, diverse, invaluable qualities intentionally.
Fake it to Make it…
At first, I didn’t believe this. I read books by real estate investing experts, and thought I had to model myself after them. I compared their life stories to mine. I thought about their professional journeys and weighed them against my own. In moments I considered replicating their actions to create the same outcomes. I even tried it a few times.
Or be Authentic?
I think many new investors feel this way – and for good reason. Who wouldn’t want to mimic the ingenuity other investors not only show, but share in best-selling books and social media posts!
However, the more I learned about real estate investing, the more I realized applying generalized lessons would not fully help realize my goals. How I interacted with people comfortably was specific to my (extreme, at the time) introversion. I also had young children, which prevented me from investing in activities that infringed on my time with them.
And I started to see that although I could replicate pieces of what successful real estate investors did, doing so would reduce or even obliterate my comfort and satisfaction in the industry. In other words, I could fake it until I made it – but I was worried the price of faking it would be my happiness, home life and long-term fulfillment.
Investing with Intention is the Answer
As a result, I decided to walk a different path. I resolved to intentionally use my specific blend of personality traits (in addition to my ‘hard,’ skills) to pursue real estate investing. I figured I would rather be less successful and more satisfied than the reverse.
Over time I realized how fortunate this intentional approach was – and started to see other people who were true to themselves were equally fortunate and fulfilled.
I realized real estate investing is not an industry where only one approach ‘wins.’ When people acted in alignment with their true selves, they thrived personally and professionally. Authentic excitement helped them to create wonderful homes, thriving communities and enriched systems for managing their properties.
It was inspiring. Real estate investing is dynamic, highly individual, and can be personalized to fit a range of goals and styles.
